Quarantine Cuisine Sections A and B
In these 90-minute classes, students ages 10-17 will learn how to cook 15 different meals, snacks, and desserts right from their kitchens. Students will prepare mostly made-from-scratch recipes using simple, common ingredients. Some classes require 15-30 minutes of prep work. Students will receive a complete set of recipes before the first day of class. Students are welcome to join this class throughout the semester until the roster is full (tuition is not pro-rated for late adds).
Some cooking experience is helpful, but not necessary. Students should be comfortable with cooking fundamentals, like boiling water and turning the stove and oven on. Many recipes are adaptable to each student's cooking level - many recipes are differentiated so that each chef can develop their skills.
Cooking hygiene and kitchen safety, along with the math and science of cooking, are central to this class! Students with food allergies and dietary restrictions are welcome to join either class. Nearly every recipe can be modified to accommodate most dietary preferences and restrictions. Quarantine Cuisine A is themed "Snacks, Sweets, and Slow Foods" - we'll focus on plant-based recipes that are light meals, hearty snacks, and delicious desserts. Many of the Quarantine Cuisine A recipes are already meatless. Quarantine Cuisine B is themed "Dinners and Desserts" - most recipes are plant-based, and students can use plant-based alternatives in the handful of recipes that traditionally include meat.
