College App Essay Writing
Applying to college can be a very stressful process for high school seniors. All of their hard work has come down to a list of numbers, classes, and accomplishments. How students can really make their application stand out among thousands of applications is for students to tell their own, unique story in a compelling way.
Students work with Elizabeth to learn the essentials of storytelling, content development, effective strategies of communicating ideas and emotions through formal writing, and more. Most writing takes place between sessions, and Elizabeth works with students through idea generation, revisions, and proofreading during tutoring sessions.
College app essay writing students work with Elizabeth to learn how to tell their own story on their college application essays. This tutoring is open to any student applying to college. Students register for a package of 12, 18, or 24 hours of tutoring. These hours typically begin in the summer and are scheduled once or twice a week, either in-person or by Zoom. Students can register for writing tutoring at any time, but we strongly recommend students begin in the summer and try to complete their package of hours before school starts in August.
After completing a package of tutoring hours, students can add additional tutoring hours as needed for $120/hour or they can purchase additional packages.
Students can choose and register for any package they want. Our recommendations are below!
Honors (12 hours) - Great starter package for students who consider themselves strong writers and who are applying to only schools who use the Common App. Perfect for students applying to fewer than 5 schools.
Scholar (18 hours) - Strongly recommended! Ideal for students who are applying to schools that use the Common App or their own app. Great for students who struggle with writing. Ideal for students applying to 5-9 schools with an essay requirement.
Elite (24 hours) - For the determined student who is applying to the most competitive schools and/or more than 10 schools, this package allows students to get plenty of guidance for Common App essays, non-Common App essays, secondary essays, and more. This is also a great package for students who haven't decided which schools they want to apply to.

Sample writing tutoring timeline:
Kara was a high school senior in Champaign-Urbana. She narrowed her college application list down to 10 business schools, including some of the top schools in the country. She had a 3.7/4.0 GPA and her best SAT score was in the upper 1400s. She is really busy with sports in the fall, and she wanted to be mostly done with her application essays before Labor Day, when her school and activity schedule gets hectic. With her parents, Kara chose an 18-hour writing tutoring package. Kara needed to write her Common App essay, and she had 8 secondary essays to write, too. Kara and Elizabeth worked together to make this schedule:
Week of July 11: 2 hours in-person
Week of July 18: 2 hours in-person
Week of July 25: 3 hours in-person
Week of Aug 1: 1 hour by Zoom (Kara was on vacation)
Week of Aug 8: 3 hours in-person
Week of Aug 15: 3 hours in-person
Week of Aug 22: 2 hours in-person
Week of Aug 29: 2 hours by Zoom (Kara was overwhelmed with her schedule, so she wanted to meet by Zoom)
Kara finished her 18-hour package and was really happy with her essays. But then she went to a prospective student webinar in September for another business school, and she fell in love. Her parents gave her the green-light to schedule 4 additional hours with Elizabeth to write the additional essays that the new school required.
